On your drive today, pass traditional farms, drive through deep valleys and savor the dramatic scenery. Visit Godafoss waterfall, which has long been known as one of the most beautiful sights in Iceland. Continue to Lake Mývatn, a nature and birding paradise, where you will see firsthand one of the most beautiful geothermal areas on the planet.

Take your time today to explore the lava fields, volcanic craters and mountains, pseudo craters, lava rock formations, the solfatara field with boiling mud pits and roaring steam vents throughout the stunning landscape of Lake Mývatn. There will also be several possibilities for easy hikes and a chance for a relaxing bath in the Nature Baths geothermal lagoon.

Take a short detour to Stuðlagil Canyon, and marvel at the fascinating basalt rock formations. The basalt column canyon towers over a turquoise glacial river, making for one of the most stunning sights in the country. Continue to the East Fjords, with its forests and high cliffs, migratory birds and the rugged coastline. You may even see wild reindeer (this is the only place you’ll find them in Iceland)!

Nature-lovers flock to the East Fjords to enjoy narrow fjords, remote fishing villages, waterfalls, lava caves, amazing wildlife, hiking trails and so much more. The small fishing village of Seyðisfjörður an artist town, with lovely restaurants and great shops. There is no shortage of geothermal baths to enjoy in Iceland, with Vök Baths located near Egilsstaðir.

Magnificent natural beauty continues today! Make your way through a portion of the interior Highlands and visit Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, plunging over 147 feet! Don’t miss Ásbyrgi, a well-forested horse-shoe-shaped canyon in Öxarfjörður and part of Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, within the Vatnajökull National Park. In the fishing town of Húsavík, often referred to as the Whale Capital of Iceland, you can take a whale watching cruise. Depending on the time of year, large colonies of puffins can be found in or around the bay.
