Norway’s Lofoten Islands & Tromsø

The islands are connected by bridges and one main road, so you just have to enjoy the journey! Every village is picturesque, and there are photo ops around every corner. One such location is the idyllic village of Henningsvær. Wander on the pier to see the fishing boats, or visit the Galleri Lofoten with an extensive collection of art and historical items from the area. Drive further south to the villages of Nusfjord and Reine, a photographer’s delight!

After a hearty breakfast, depart and drive along the incredible Vesterålen archipelago. Dotted with fishing villages, rich farmland, and a seemingly endless coastline, today’s journey will be unforgettable. Arrive in the city of Narvik, popular for outdoor activities year-round, including skiing. It also has a significant place in World War II history as the site of a German invasion and subsequent battle.

Highlights (optional): Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes, join a whale safari from Andenes (seasonal), take a guided walk and cable car to the top of Narvikfjellet in Narvik to admire the sunset from the beautiful historic restaurant.

Your journey takes you further north to the Arctic Capital, the city of Tromsø. It is an art, science, and cultural center, home to The University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway, the world’s northernmost university. Tromsø offers a wide range of outdoor activities just beyond its doorstep. Meet the indigenous Sami, see arctic marine and wildlife, hunt for the Northern Lights, or golf under the Midnight Sun!

Highlights (optional): Take the cable car to the top of the mountain for a breathtaking view, The Arctic Cathedral, and The Polar Museum. During the winter, go reindeer sledding or dog sledding (during the summer months, you can go dog sledding with wagons!)

On your excursion you will learn about the indigenous Sami people, their culture & lifestyle, see and possibly feed reindeer, and hear traditional stories. The Sami traditions include reindeer herding, the joik song, and beautiful handcrafts.
