You’ve arrived in Sweden’s summer and winter playground, for all ages. Östersund, the main city of the Swedish midland region of Jämtland, is the perfect combination of steep mountains, deep lakes, forests, and also a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. The area is a hidden gem in Sweden, accessible by train from Trondheim, Norway, or by air from Stockholm. Get acquainted with the city and surroundings on a walking tour with a local guide. Depending on the season, choose one of the many options such as hiking or snow activities. Go snowmobiling, ice fishing, learn about the daily lives of the indigenous Sami at a Sami cultural park (seasonal), or visit a reindeer farm and get close to the animals. You will also have the opportunity to go dogsledding by sled or wagon.

Travel to the heart of Sweden, Dalarna. Dotted with lakes and rich forests, the landscape lends itself to winter or summer activities. Two of Sweden’s most beloved artists, Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn, chose to live in this area, as it provided great inspiration for their work. Both of their homes have been historically preserved and are open to visitors. An absolute must is a stop at the workshop where the famous Dala horses are made. You can observe the artists while on a tour, and of course, shop!

An important site that should not be missed is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Falun mine. You can take a tour, or if you’d rather not go underground, visit the museum. Formerly a copper mine, it has a fascinating history spanning centuries! Depending on the season, you can visit authentic farm shops, go hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing in the stunning surroundings.

Make your way to Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. Located directly in the stunning archipelago, the city has an elegant, vibrant, yet cozy vibe – filled with parks and waterways, culture, and historic buildings and monuments. You will be introduced to Stockholm on your private walking tour with a local guide this afternoon.

Explore on your own or join a guided tour. Either way, you will see beautiful Gamla Stan (the Old Town), City Hall, the Royal Palace, and many more of Stockholm’s amazing landmarks. You could also choose to take a boat trip to Drottningholm Palace, the royal family’s summer home, which features stunning gardens, or spend the day tasting your way through Swedish delicacies on a culinary tour with an experienced food guide!
